Chief of Security Log - Mission Day 1 - 1900 hours

"Well, to say the day help surprises for me would be an understatement. I have managed to meet the Captain and the XO today, both very different from each other and both seem quite capable in their positions. I can see why they are fitted together for this ship, their strengths and weaknesses will no doubt be covered by each other. I have come to think of the relationship between the CO and XO of any ship to be like a marriage.

The bad part of the day was learning that 32 of our phaser rifles were missing. I was not... am not happy about that one bit. The Captain informs me that Commander Briggs said everything thing was in order, but still, we are missing phaser rifles. Luckily, I guess you could say the Prophets were smiling down on us, we really were only missing 20 of them. Petty Officer Gortat had taken 12 rifles and restocked the weapon cache around the ship with them. They have been accounted for. I changed all security codes on all weapon lockers myself and right now only three people can open them - me, Commander Ainscow, and Lieutenant T'Mia. As we get more familiar with the crew, I might open it up to Operations, but as of now, I'm restricting access to weapons and armories.

I did find something very peculiar about this shipment of rifles. They are not the ones that originally were on the ship when it left the Planetia Utopia Shipyards. All of those weapons were taken off the Vindex when it arrived at Unity Station and then this group was brought on. I did some back tracking and at the last visual check, they were all in order - I talked to the individuals who did the check and security logs back them up. However, as they were going to be transported over, they were delayed and reroute to another transporter pad from the station. They were 10 minutes late arriving to the Vindex. That would be ample time remove one weapon from each crate.

Trying to track down who authorized the transporter move has been futile. That pad went down for repairs right after the transport and all date was lost.

So, we are still looking for 20 phaser rifles. To be on the safe side, I ordered 20 more rifles to replace those and they should be here tomorrow. I currently have Petty Officers Lynch and Orana testing each rifle out to make sure that they are battle ready.

And now to give a report to the Commander and the Lieutenant...

I know they are not going to like this.
