Chief Engineer's Log: Before Launch

Chief Engineer's Log open

The Vindex is set to begin her first mission. It would be nice if we had more of a shakedown cruise, get rid of some of the unwanted bugs. However, the engineers and I have been able to accommodate and work with what we have. We had some trouble with the gel packs and replicators but all problems should be remedied at this point. The crew haven't been entirely concerned and seek their meals from the ship's chef. He does an excellent job.

Vindex holds all the characteristics of a new ship. She maintains her smell of newness, hopefully the systems will not be too much of a problem on her first voyage.

Being back aboard a starship brings back good memories and new experiences. Being so far away from the Federation, I will be tested on my abilities to serve the ship in this capacity. I will need to be more creative when it comes to situations that can't be assisted by a nearby starbase. I'm rather excited to see where this will take us.

Remembering my Latin, the language that describes the ship, is fitting for the mission in which we seek to do. Vindex means "guardian" or "protector" sometimes translated as "champion." I believe that is what to be expected of our crew and mission. Certainly a accredited to the task we must take together. I look forward to my service with the Vindex and crew, maybe I can contribute to her even just a little.

This will be different from teaching at the Academy. I'm learning to adjust myself accordingly to the task at hand. Many good engineers are here to assist me. Many I know before and a few I even instructed. Currently I am awaiting for the maiden voyage and our first mission.
