A Special Assignment

Posted on Sat Aug 27th, 2016 @ 7:46pm by Captain Claudia Ainscow & Lieutenant Kazyah Linn

Mission: S1E1 - Booby Trap
Location: Deck 1; Captain's Ready Room
Timeline: Mission Day 6; 16:30

Claudia had not long returned from Rakhar and having listened to Lieutenant Joyce she was convinced the officer was telling the truth - however some more information that Lieutenant Joyce had shared during her debrief concerned Claudia and she planned on asking Kazyah to do some digging for her to see just how true Isobel's information was. She sat down at her desk and decided to call the Intelligence Officer to her room for a chat.

=/\="Ainscow to Linn. Please come to my Ready Room as soon as you're available"=/\= Claudia said.

It didn't take long before the chime announced the man had arrived.

Pleased with the promptness of Kazyah she allowed her guest to enter.

"Enter!" Claudia called.

The doors opened and Lieutenant Linn walked in, "You asked to see me, Captain?"

Although she knew Kazyah wouldn't be able to see her smiling she did so anyway.

"I did Mr Linn. Please take a seat" Claudia replied.

"I'd prefer to stand if you don't mind," he stated, staying where he was.

Claudia nodded. "Fair enough. Now what I'd like to talk to you about is a bit of a concern but I'm not entirely sure what the extent of the problem is. I've been informed that there's a reason behind the lack of traffic in the area. Apparently there's a build up of Consortium forces in an area close to Deep Space 11 but that's all we know so far. Is there any chance you could speak to your contacts and find out what's going on?"

Kaz raised an eyebrow, "I can try, but if there is such a build up, I would not be surprised if our communication lines were blocked."

Claudia nodded. She knew at the moment any large amounts intelligence would be very difficult to come across - anything they could get would be a massive help.

"That's fine. I appreciate in the circumstances it might not be an easy task - any information large or small is certainly beneficial. There's also our Suliban friend. I'm not entirely sure about him because he's been rather...distant...lately. Find out what you can from him - you've got my permission to go through his logs and see if anything comes up. I could be entirely wrong but he's been reluctant to join in with our briefings of late" Claudia continued.

"Distant how?" Kazyah asked. He hadn't spent much time with the Suliban man so he had no basis to make a judgement.

Claudia wasn't entirely sure herself but Tolan seemed to be offering very little information for an area and an organisation he had studied for months before the Vindex was even in the area.

Claudia shrugged. "I'm not sure. He seems reluctant to offer much advice and he never joins our staff briefings even though he previously agreed to do so. I could be assuming things here Lieutenant but I'd like you to check things out for me just so we can be sure - although I'd like you to prioritise the first task. If you need any extra resources I'll see what I can do"

Kaz nodded, "Of course. I'll get right on that, Captain."

"Thank you Lieutenant. I appreciate your understanding - I guess with the current situation you really can't be too sure of who you're dealing with - especially if you don't know them very well. Is there anything I can do for you while you're here?" Claudia responded.

"I think I'm doing well, Captain," Kaz said, "Thank you for asking. I will have an update for you soon."

Claudia smiled. She was glad that Kaz had understood her concerns and that he was doing well so far. So far she had enjoyed serving with him and found having somebody from Starfleet Intelligence around very useful.

"Glad to hear it. I won't keep you from your work any longer - you can head off when you're ready. And just to reiterate - I'm here if you need me for anything" Claudia replied.

"Of course," he said. He turned and walked out of the room.
