Checking In

Posted on Thu Nov 24th, 2016 @ 1:40am by Captain Claudia Ainscow & Lieutenant JG Imogen Kaz

Mission: S1E2 - Unity
Location: Lieutenant JG Kaz's office
Timeline: Mission Day 9; 15:00

Claudia decided to pay a visit to Lieutenant Kaz's office to see how she was doing. Claudia hadn't really seen much of Imogen since she arrived and the Vindex's commanding officer always liked to touch base with her department heads regularly to make sure everything was alright. As she made her way to Imogen's office she found herself wondering about what lay ahead of the Vindex. They were still a few hours away from Altor and Claudia couldn't help but feel more nervous about it with each passing hour.

Finally arriving at her destination Claudia pressed the chime and waited for permission to enter.

Imogen had been catching up on paperwork, while also looking through the records of the departments duty rosters when the chime rang. She wasn't expecting anyone, so she wasn't sure who it could be. "Enter!" She called out, looking up from the PADD she'd been using.

Claudia pressed the button to enter Imogen's office and made her way inside. Once inside she took a seat in front of her desk and smiled at the Trill officer. It hadn't been long since her department change so Claudia had put a visit to Imogen a bit higher up her list.

"Good afternoon Lieutenant. How are you today?" Claudia asked.

"Very well, thank you Captain, and yourself?" She asked, standing. "Can I offer you a drink?" She asked, smiling softly.

Claudia smiled. "I'm fine thank you Lieutenant. I'd love a cup of tea - if you could make me one that would be lovely. I've been meaning to check in with you since your transfer even though it's not been very long"

"A tea, I can do that, milk and sugar?" She asked, walking to the replicator.

"I'm sweet enough. One sugar and milk please" Claudia giggled.

Imogen turned to the replicator. "Tea, hot, milk, one sugar." She said, letting the drink materialize, then picking it up, and passing it across to Claudia. "So, what can i do you for?" She asked, smiling.

Claudia smiled and accepted the cup of tea before taking a sip of it and speaking. She'd had a few cups already that day but Claudia never turned down the opportunity to have one.

"Thank you Lieutenant. I'm here to see how you're settling into your new role and how you're finding it" Claudia asked.

"Settling in well, thank you, it's a busy department, thats for sure." She said, sitting back down.

Claudia nodded. "I know that all too well. I used to be in Operations and I have to say it was challenging but I enjoyed it. I hope it's a challenge that you enjoy too - after all not many officers your age are in charge of running a department. I wasn't Head of Operations until I was 30"

"I always enjoy a good challenge, and I know, it surprised me when I got the position!" She said, laughing.

Claudia smiled. She was in a similar position when Captain Grundy gave her the Chief Operations Officer role in 2382 - she wasn't exactly expecting it but neither was she expecting to have her own ship at the age of 36.

"Well you were the best one for the position after Akiva was promoted and when I discussed it with him and recommended you he completely agreed. Even so we're both still here to help you if you ever need it" Claudia replied.

"Much appreciated Captain, any news on the saboteurs?" She asked.

Claudia shook her head. Even though there had been thorough investigations there was still absolutely no clue as to who The Consortium agent - or agents - aboard the Vindex was. Claudia had suspected Tolan and part of her still did - even after the information he gave her.

"Not yet. We'll keep looking until we find them - they can be quite slack at times so it's only going to take one of them making a silly mistake and we've got them...I hope anyway" Claudia replied.

"Fingers crossed, what's the plan when we actually find them?" She asked.

Claudia had another long sip of her tea before keeping hold of it in both hands to keep them warm.

Claudia smirked. "That's for me to know and you to find out Lieutenant. They'll get what's coming to them for damaging the Vindex and trying to trap me, Commander ben-Avram and Lieutenant Himmel behind a forcefield. Although hopefully if we get to Unity and manage to drive them back then they might just give themselves up and save us a job"

"That'd be nice. Less paperwork for all of us to...." She replied, nodding.

Claudia took another long swig of her cup of tea.

Claudia smiled. "It would but unfortunately we're going to have to keep investigating and hopefully we'll get a lead sooner or later. We're not going to give up - mark my words"

"I wouldn't expect any less from you Captain!" She said, laughing again. "Can I get you another tea?" She asked, noticing the empty cup.

Claudia smiled. "I'd love to but I've got a mountain of work to do in my office. I took a break from it to come and visit you to see how you were doing - it was nice to catch up with you"

Claudia then stood up and placed the cup to one side out of the way ready to be re-used.

"Thank you for coming to visit, maybe see you in the mess sometime?" Imogen explored the possibility. She'd never been one for meals in the mess hall, but maybe now was the time to try one.

Claudia nodded and smiled.

"You're welcome Lieutenant. I'll keep an eye out for you" Claudia replied.

With that Claudia turned around and headed off back to her office. It was still a nervous time for her but she was doing her very best not to show it and keep herself in a calm frame of mind.
