Checking out the Engine

Posted on Wed Jun 15th, 2016 @ 11:59pm by Lieutenant Commander Soren Himmel & Lieutenant JG Tora Benjarvi

Mission: S1E1 - Booby Trap
Location: Main Engineering
Timeline: Mission Day 1 - 1600 Hours

Benj looked down at his PADD. He had already visited the Captain and the Executive Officers. He had a "pleasant conversation with Colonel Zaltin", found some missing weapons, and was still on the lookout for 20 more. Still, he had his job to do as well. He never thought much about having an Investigator on the ship, but now he wished he had one.

That could be addressed at another time. For now, he was entering Main Engineering. He wanted to get the layout visually of the two decks around the warp core and the control panels. He figured that if there was any boarding action, real or simulated, then one of the major battles would go down in Main Engineering. Who ever controlled this area could shut down the warp core, dump it or make it go critical. Benj wanted to make sure that it didn't happen on his watch.

As he entered the area, he began to look around for Lieutenant Himmel, the Chief Engineer. Seeing him at one of the consoles, he approached.

"Lieutenant Himmel, I'm Lieutenant Tora, Head of Security. How are you?"

Himmel looked up from his console and stopped what he was doing, "Doing gut Lieutenant. Dealing with some small issues. I'm really checking and rechecking that everything will run properly. I'm far more stressed in this situation. Being so far from the heart of the Federation, problems will be far harder to handle if things are not running right. That's me for you. How about yourself?"

Benj gave him an innocent looking grin. "We plan on attacking Main Engineering tomorrow around 1000 hours." He paused for a moment to let that sink.

Soren's eyes widened, as if his stress levels needed more excitement, and he couldn't quite get his words, he stumbled over them as he responded to the Security chief, "wh...what?"

A large smile grew on Benj's face. "Actually it is a simulated attack conducted by Security and the Marines. I didn't know if any of your Engineers wanted to participate since if there is boarding action, some of it will take place here."

Himmel was able to relax a little, and a smile grew on his face. "mein gott, you had me going Lieutenant," he grabbed his belt and pulled up on his pants, "I'm getting to the point where I don't like training exercises. But, I do tell the cadets that they need to take advantage of them because they are useful and helpful," He gave a deep sigh and replied, "Very well Lieutenant, in order to not be hypocritical of my own advice, myself and the rest of the engineers will participate. It'll be good training."

Benj's smile broaded. "Excellent. It will be tomorrow at 1000 hours in holodeck 2. We would have it here, but I know that a disrupted Engineering Room is not good for a starship. I'll have a complete mark up of Engineering recreated for them. It shouldn't take more than 90 minutes or so and I'll send you the results. And might I say that I love your accent. Which part of Earth are you from?", asked the Bajoran.

"Roger that Lieutenant, it sounds gut to me." Soren smiled, "I am from Munich, Germany. A territory on the European continent. Probably the old country has the most diverse history, a lot of ups and downs for our people."

"Interesting", said Benj. He was always interested in subcultures of different races and how they made people distinct among themselves. On Bajor, though most people thought everyone was the same, they were really different as well.

"I will send you the parameters of the simulations but the last one is totally going to be a surprise. See what Engineering can improvise. Now, if you will excuse me, I need to check the weapons cache in Engineering. It was really good to meet you, Lieutenant."

"Aye Lieutenant, I'll alert my staff and we'll be ready for you. I think it will prove to be good bonding for the Engineers." The old engineer then gave a smile and nod, "The pleasure was all mine Lieutenant. See you then."

Benj headed to finish inventorying and Himmel went back to work in the engine room.
