Reporting In

Posted on Wed May 3rd, 2017 @ 10:34pm by Lieutenant Kazyah Linn & Ensign Ahira Kasamoto

Mission: S1E5 - Unknown Territory
Location: Intel Office
Timeline: MD 82 1745

The hybrid infiltration specialist straightened his uniform jacket, looking himself over in the mirror. The uniform was freshly replicated and looked sharp and crisp. He was freshly shaved and there wasn't a hair out of place. Being a model officer, or at least looking like one was no different than any other role he'd taken on.

He picked up his PADD with his transfer and dossier and put in his pocket. As he left his quarters he keyed a security code into the console and committed it to memory.

He then made his way to the Intel Office and stepped inside.

"What do you want?" Kaz asked, not looking up from his Computer terminal. "And it's typically considered rude to enter an office uninvited."

"Well good morning to you too," Ahira replied unruffled, "I want to report in, I'm a new transfer. If that's not too much trouble that is."

Holding out his hand, Kaz still didn't look up.

Ahira took the hand and shook it, then uninvited sat down. A smart ass remark 'Looking at some good porn?' formed in his mind, but what he said was, "Take your time sir, it must be important. I'm not going anyplace."

Kaz looked up with a facial expression that portrayed the annoyance and disgust he felt. "I was asking for your orders," he simply said. "And I didn't say you could sit."

"Sorry for making an assumption," Ahira replied as he reached for his orders. "Would you prefer I stand, sir?"

Without answering, Kaz just sat there and looked at the man, his face not revealing any emotion.

Ahira, did his best to keep his face impassive, and other than the smallest of tics around his left eye was successful. He stared right back at his superior officer, without moving from his sitting position.

"Stand up."

Ahira stood to his feet, still without saying a word, and he saluted the man.

Without returning the salute, Kaz looked down at the PADD and began to skim over the information. "When did you come aboard?" he asked.

"Thirteen days ago, I 've been bidding my time waiting for them to appoint a new department head, even if you are a temporary one," he replied glancing at the PAdD in Kaz's hand.

"I'm aware of what this says, Ensign," Kaz said, sounding both bored and annoyed. After a few more moments of silence, he placed the PADD down and finally looked up at the man. "You may have a seat."

"Did I do something to annoy you sir?" he asked,"to piss you off? Should I come back later?"

"No you may not come back later," Kaz said. He turned to his computer and began to type. "What brought you to the Vindex?" he asked, not looking at Ahira.

"Basically, because I pissed off a lot of people, especially in Section 31, so I got sent her to keep me... far away. So maybe, just maybe I have to watch my ass little less."

At the mention of Ahira's former employer, Kaz looked up at the man. "Typically agents of Section 31 don't go around announcing themselves," he said, his face set. "They also don't tend to leave the organization. Are you an active agent?"

"You're making assumptions, Lieutenant," Ahira replied his voice hardening, "I never said I worked for them, I infiltrated them, they weren't too happy about that."

"And you're still alive?"

"For now. I'm good and I got lucky." He blew out a long breath, "and I almost started believing their bullshit. Fortunately, I came to my senses before it was too late."

Kaz sat there for a few moments, rubbing his fingers along his jawline. He wasn't sure who this man thought he was, but their backgrounds were too similar and the situation that Kaz recently found himself in made this too much of a coincidence. And as everyone knew, Kaz didn't believe in coincidences. "I see," he said, finally. "So, I see you're skilled in..." Kaz picked up the PADD and looked at it again, "Infiltration. How do you see yourself benefitting this crew?"

"Good question, Well I am good at what I do. I was good at it before I joined Starfleet. I blend in rather well in a crowd, I'm good at, um, getting people to believe my story, even if it's not entirely the truth. I'm not bad at scrounging and, well I have a good rapport with security systems if you know what I mean."

"And what did you do before Starfleet?" Kaz asked.

There was a brief pause before Ahira replied, "I was an entrepreneur."

"Care to elaborate?"

Ahira's deadpan demeanor cracked and he smiled, "I acquired certain goods, you know import, export, even did some bounty hunting. I, played both sides of the fence."

Kazyah raised an eyebrow. "Interesting. And what brought you to Starfleet?"

"I tried to fool the wrong person, a mistake I don't usually make, and well I was kind of blackmailed into joining. Exploring space seemed a much better alterantive thatn exploring a penal colony."

Kaz picked up the PADD and pressed his finger to the display. "Welcome aboard," he said, handing the PADD back to the man. "Get out of my office."

Ahira chuckled as he stood to his feet taking his PAaD back, "Yes sir," he replied as he turned to go.

"Don't even think about trying to slide anything past me," Kaz said without looking up. "I can see everything."

Ahira paused, "Then what am I thinking now?" he challenged.

"I can only read minds if we were skin to skin," Kaz stated, leaning back in his chair.

"Then I guess my secrets are safe, at least for the time being," they hybrid officer replied dryly before turning once more and leaving the office.
