Formal Greetings

Posted on Fri May 26th, 2017 @ 10:10am by Captain Claudia Ainscow & Lieutenant Victor Alexander

Mission: S2E1 - Secrets
Location: Deck 1, Captain's Ready Room
Timeline: MD 84; 1700

Victor took a deep breath as he closed his eyes, listening to the calming hum of the turbolift as it conveyed him to the bridge. It was one of the calmer, more unique sounds on a Starship he never grew tried of hearing. As the doors to the turbolift hissed open, Victor put on his usual confident smile as he strolled onto the bridge. He took a moment to admire the stations while flashing his killer smile at several of the crewmen assembled.

After taking a moment to appreciate the beauty of the Sovereign class bridge, Victor strode over to the Captain's ready room door. He took a deep breath as he hit the door chime, ready to meet his new CO.

Claudia looked up at the door - having returned from her wedding reception to check on things. There'd been another radical change in staff with the department heads for Tactical, Flight Control and Medical all deciding to depart for pastures new. Fortunately - a replacement for Tactical had been found swiftly - and he was expected to arrive imminently.

"Come in!" Claudia called.

Victor grinned as the door opened, striding into the Captain's ready room with an extended hand.

"Pleasure to meet you Captain," the enthusiastic officer replied as he reached for the Captain's hand, "I'm your new Chief of Security--Lieutenant Victor Alexander."

Claudia smiled and stood up as she watched Victor enter the room and approach her desk. She extended her hand to Victor's and shook it gently.

"A pleasure Lieutenant - please sit down. Can I get you anything to drink?" Claudia replied.

"I actually might be able to help with that," the officer replied with a smile as he pulled out a bottle of Champagne behind his back with his left hand, "I hear congratulations are in order!"

After sitting the bottle down on the table, Victor sat down in front of the Captain's desk as he grabbed his wedding ring, fidgeting with it instinctively as the conversation continued.

Claudia was touched by how Victor knew of her wedding to Rebecca. It had been arranged with as few people as possible knowing but ultimately Claudia didn't really mind. With both of them now suddenly wearing wedding rings it wouldn't take too long for everyone to put two and two together.

"Why thank you Lieutenant. My favourite" Claudia replied - smiling.

Victor's grin widened as he nodded in reply, leaning back into a more relaxed posture in his chair. "Getting down to business, I look forward to getting settled in." The Security Chief pulled out a PADD from his uniform pocket as he continued, "I'd like to make sure that we can conduct department-wide and ship-wide drills at regular intervals. To that end, I hope to have the support of the Command staff to have the occasional ship-wide intruder and combat simulation drills--even if it's at 0330."

Victor chuckled as he scratched his head, "This is why I bring alcoholic goodies to everyone. It helps make up for the unpopularity of pushing for occasional early morning combat drills."

"I think we'll get along just fine Lieutenant. I will take that down to my quarters to share with the new Mrs Ainscow. Fortunately we both hold very different ranks so there'll be no confusion..." Claudia began.

Placing the bottle of champagne on the desk she knew she wouldn't be able to have any of it - especially with her currently carrying a child. They could always have it another time though.

"Going back to your previous point I think that would be a very wise idea - the more preparation we can get the quicker we can respond to situations on board. The person you're taking over from has moved down to the planet to lead the Starfleet Security detachment down there so I'd imagine she's probably left the department in pretty good shape" Claudia concluded.

"Wonderful," Victor replied with a small nod indicating his satisfaction at the reply, "I'll have to make it a point to check in with the former Security Chief on the ground and exchange notes, tips, and ideas. I suppose that's all from me really. Is there anything else you'd like to discuss or any questions you had for me?"

Claudia nodded. "Of course - I think Ms Cusack will be more than happy to share everything with you. If you like I can arrange for you to have a meeting so you can discuss things face to face rather than over a monitor. She's recently upgraded all the torpedo launchers so that's one less thing for you to worry about"

Claudia made a note in her computer to touch base with Martha in a couple of days' time.

"One other thing - we've got a party downstairs. Want to come along? We've had the main meal but my wife in her infinite wisdom has turned it into something more like her 21st birthday party. The more the merrier" Claudia asked.

"I'd love to!" Victor replied enthusiastically as he jumped up from his chair, "I'll stop by my quarters and see if I have some more alcohol to liven up the party." Victor chuckled as he walked towards the door of the Ready Room, "The secret to a successful message, you see, is using the phrase 'yes dear' and repeating it regularly with a tone of sincerity."

"I think you and I - as well as my wife - are going to get along just fine. I'll be sure to bear that in mind though - it's my first serious relationship in about eight years and we got married within a few months. Commodore Hutchinson also advised me to never go to bed on an argument so I think I'll be bearing that in mind too - although I'd prefer to avoid arguments if I can" Claudia said.

Closing her console down again she looked back up at Victor.

"Back to the party though - if you haven't eaten I can ask the chef to put something together for you" Claudia concluded.

"Sounds like the Commodore is wise indeed," Victor replied with an approving nod. "I'll have to talk to Chef and get some ingredients together. I make an awesome pizza if I do say so myself." The Security chief let out a mischievous grin as he continued, "I also haven't started a kitchen fire on a ship in months so, you might say I'm an expert cook..."

Claudia smiled. "I'm sure Mr Foster would appreciate the help - he's been a bit busier than normal recently as our other chef Mr Bovek has been unwell for the past few days. If you want to lend a hand down there I'm sure he'd be more than happy for you to join him"

"Excellent," Victor replied with enthusiasm, "I guarantee no more than 3 security and/or medical teams will need to be called to deal with the aftermath." The Security officer turned to the door as it gently hissed opened. "Now, shall we proceed to that lovely party you mentioned Captain?"

Claudia nodded and giggled - she thought herself and Victor were going to get along just fine.

"Oh absolutely. I'd imagine my wife will be sending three security teams to come and find me if I'm not back there soon - it's in the function room which is a quieter version of our bar area - I'll lead the way" Claudia said.

Claudia headed out of the door and led the way. She was surprised at how quickly a replacement for Martha had been found but she was very grateful - his experience would certainly come in extremely useful as well.
