It is I, Arturo M'Rohass (Again)!

Posted on Tue Jul 11th, 2017 @ 12:34am by Lieutenant Commander Arturo M'Rohass & Commander Akiva ben-Avram

Mission: S2E1 - Secrets
Location: XO's Office
Timeline: MD99: 0830hrs

After his meeting with the Captain, Arturo walked out onto the bridge and checked in with the duty FCO. They seemed to have everything under control, so he left them at the conn and went to see the Executive Officer and to handle the myriad of other details he had to take care of before his first day was done, like stopping by Sickbay and the Counseling offices as well, while he was at it. Arturo also wanted to meet with the officer who had been running things before he'd arrived. But first...or second, since he'd already met with the Captain, he'd meet with the XO. He hit the chime on the XO's door and waited for a response.

Akiva stood gazing out the window, hands folded behind his back, the day's briefings and reports untouched on his desk. The welcome home party he had just left on the Observation Lounge left him feeling weak and discouraged. It was good to see his old friends returned to the Vindex from their wedding, but the subject matter included some troubling reminders.

The chime at the door was an almost welcome interruption to his brooding.

"Come in," he said without turning around.

Arturo entered, walked to the XO's desk, and came to attention.

"It is I!" he said. "Lieutenant Arturo M'Rohass, your newly arrived Chief Flight Control Officer!"

Arturo was in his Starfleet uniform, which was like any other Starfleet uniform from the waist up. The pants were designed with a Caitian's tail and digitigrade legs, as were the special boots.

The sudden exclamation arrested Akiva's attention and ripped it away from the viewport. He spun into a defensive crouch behind his desk until his mind processed the words.

Akiva heaved a sigh of relief and dry-washed the tension out his hands.

"Forgive me. My mind was... somewhere else." He gestured toward the seat in front of his desk before taking a seat himself. "Please, come in and make yourself at home, Lieutenant... M'Rohass, isn't it?"

"Yes!" Arturo replied enthusiastically. New ships and new crews meant new adventures and new adventures were exciting! "I am Lieutenant M'Rohass!"

The diminutive Caitian sat in one of the chairs in front of the XO's desk.

As a reserved personality, Akiva seldom exhibited the emotions he felt. He offered a half smile at Arturo's enthusiasm.

"Well, I can see you are excited to be here, but not half as excited as I am." Akiva waved at the stack of reports on one side of his desk. "Half of those are CONN-related, as they fell to me with the unexpected transfer of our previous CFCO. The shuttlebay has been overhauling their vessels--I figured that would keep them busy--but I admit the rest of your department may need some work." Akiva shrugged. "I was an Operations man before my Command position."

"I will have everything running smoothly, Commander," Arturo said. "My department will be prepared for any and all adventures ahead of us. So swears Arturo M'Rohass!"

Akiva raised an eyebrow. "Well, we are currently in orbit, but we're scheduled to depart soon. Do you have any special requirements or projects that I could assist you with for the time being?"

"The Flight Control station is already Caitian friendly," Arturo replied. "There's an opening in the back through which my tail can fit, so I won't need any modifications there. I would like to know where we are headed. I'd like to visit Stellar Cartography and see if there is one course that might be better than another."

A giddy smile passed over Akiva's face at the mention of Stellar Cartography. "Ah, yes. Petty Officer Laena is our Stellar Cartographer. She... she will certainly be able to assist you." He squeezed his hands together, then released them with a sigh.

"As for our destination? Captain Ainscow has not informed me yet. I suspect we'll continue our mix of exploration and patrol of the area, though there's always the chance Command can send us on another mission at any time."

"I will prepare myself and my staff for the unknown, then!" Arturo replied. "It has been a pleasure meeting you, Commander! I would stay to talk more, but I have a great many things to accomplish today. If there is nothing else, sir?"

Akiva allowed himself a quiet chuckle. "No, Lieutenant. I look forward to seeing what you accomplish. Thank you for stopping by."

"As I said," Arturo replied. "It was my pleasure! Good day, Commander!"
