Mission: S1E1 - Booby Trap
Location: Deck 1; Observation Lounge
Timeline: Mission Day 2; time TBC

Tolan was busy analysing the notes he had been given on the Vindex's mission to find the Renown. There was very few - if any - hints as to where it was hiding although the logical guess was somewhere near the Rakhar system. He knew that the Renown wouldn't reply to any hails and doing so would give away the position of the missing ship and also the Vindex. He was keen to hear what the Chief Intelligence Officer had in mind - so Tolan decided to summon Lieutenant Linn to the Observation Lounge.

=/\="Tolan to Lieutenant Linn. If you're free could you come and join me in the observation lounge?"=/\=

There was no response, but a few moments later, the doors opened and Kaz walked through. "What can I do for you, Lieutenant?" he asked, standing behind one of the chairs.

Tolan heard Kaz enter the room and the Suliban turned to face the Vindex's Chief Intelligence Officer.

"Ah Lieutenant...thank you for coming. I'm interested to hear your viewpoints on this mission - after all the more ideas we can put together the more chance we have of finding this ship one way or the other" Tolan replied.

"Feel free to ask any questions you have," Kaz stated as he took a seat.

Tolan thought for a few moments. As Kaz was the Chief Intelligence Officer his security clearance was higher than Tolan's - so Kaz knew more than the Suliban did - and he certainly wasn't under any obligation to divulge what he knew to Tolan.

"Am I correct in thinking you're assigned to Starfleet Intelligence rather than under the command of Commander Ainscow?" Tolan asked.

"And why would that information be pertinent to you or this mission?" Kaz asked, raising an eyebrow.

Tolan was expecting such an answer. He nodded slowly whilst looking over at the opposite wall. He immediately knew that it wasn't going to be an easy task getting to know Kaz - although Tolan knew his assignment wasn't permanent he still wanted to know as much as he could about who he was working with.

"I like being sure of my facts" Tolan replied.

"Then let's stick to the facts, Lieutenant," Kaz stated. "The ones that are important to your being on this ship. None of those facts include me."

Tolan was intrigued by Kaz and he decided to move onto something else seeing as he clearly wasn't going to get an answer to his question. His assignment to the Gamma Quadrant wasn't planned to be a permanent one and he was hoping he could return to the Alpha Quadrant once the wormhole was opened again.

"The facts are extremely limited Lieutenant. We know nothing of where the ship was headed nor do we know what has happened to it. All I know is it was last seen near the Rakhar system - that is the only concrete fact which is why I've been asked to work with you so we can find some more" Tolan replied.

Kaz was becoming very frustrated with the man, but kept his cool. "I'm aware of the information that you know. I can only assume you've asked me here to glean more information. So again, ask your questions."

"In fact I asked you here to share your thoughts and any ideas you may have so we can put them together and start working on something. As for asking you for information I am aware that the level you can share with me and what you can share with Commander Ainscow is different" Tolan said.

"Mister Tolan," Kaz said, standing. "When it comes to information on board this ship, I'm the one who knows it. And I don't give information out that is unnecessary. Nor will I waste my time trying to decide what you need to know or don't need to know. My job isn't to keep you informed nor to create plans with you. If you desire information, all you have to do is ask for what you want. Then I'll answer if I feel you need the information."

Tolan decided that this wasn't going particularly well - and that Claudia probably wasn't going to be pleased with the lack of progress he was making to build a working relationship with Kaz. Working relationships were always good for Tolan as he felt his personality often clashed with others.

"If I need anything from you then I'll be sure ask you" Tolan replied simply.

With a nod, Kaz turned and walked out of the room as quickly as he had entered.
