Mission: S1E1 - Booby Trap
Location: Cabin, USS Vindex

The little blinking damage alert lights on Engineering consoles heralded another peculiar day. Even as the computer enunciated the problem, Nurse Takahashi called in, =/Engineering? Could you please send a repair technician to my quarters? I'm having problems getting my doors open.\= This was accompanied by numerous other alert calls from other crew members who heard and/or felt the crash.

Himmel responded, =/we're on it, getting other reports across the ship.\=

The cause of the problem was easy to spot. From inside Otoha's cabin, a high velocity projectile had punched halfway through her door, mangling it badly.

A computerized voice could be heard. {Click on the words to hear her voice.}
"Caution. Do not connect the reserve atomic battery to the acceleration unit without first disabling power synchronization."

Otoha protested, "NOW you tell me!"

Himmel had addressed the problem personally. It seemed a few crew quarters were jammed shut and that was a big no go for the engineer. He approached the quarters of Otoha, without know it was her quarters. He saw the projectile and couldn't quite understand. He assembled some tools and went to work. He had to cut one end of it, then around the area in which it was lodged. As soon as that he was able to cut some mangled ends. He was going to override the manual door release when the Operations officer arrived. "Lieutenant, guten tag, pleasure to see."

"Peace to you," Akiva acknowledged back. "I've been trying not to make a habit of always relieving the damage repair teams, but I just had to see this in person." He assessed the projectile lodged inside the door with arms folded. "Impressive." His tone was wry. "I suggest replicating an entirely new door and dematerializing the scrap -- this... missile... included."

"Nono!" Otoha pursed her lips, trying to make the best of an awkward situation. "I... need that." She scanned with her tricorder wand-ring, "The master machinist can craft a replacement part." Now that the mangled door was removed from its frame, the inside of the nurse's quarters were clearly visible. The bed on the roof, the partially built space ninja-bike; it wasn't difficult to surmise what was going on, here. "The assembly instructions are... flawed."

Akiva stepped inside the nurse's quarters and assessed the vehicle, the ceiling bed, and the nurse solemnly, each in turn. "If there are not regulations against this scenario, there should be. My official log will reflect that." He looked pointedly at Otoha, started to say something, then just shook his head. "And they called me crazy," he muttered under his breath. After stepping back into the hall, he tapped his combadge. /=\ "Ben-Avram to Machine Shop."/=]
/=\ "Yes, sir?"/=\
/=\ "We need a replacement door for Nurse Otoha's quarters on Deck 6,"/=\ Akiva said.
/=\ "One standard door, coming up,"/=\ came the reply.
Akiva looked at the mangled door and the eccentric nurse fussing over the salvage. /=\ "Make that a reinforced door. Ben-Avram out."/=\

Otoha quietly exhaled a deep breath at hearing that. Given the circumstances, she couldn't return a squint. She wanted to, though. She had to politely fold her hands and be the lady, "Thank you... Lieutenant."

She should have waited for everyone to depart before tossing the interactive tutorial controller aside. It clicked on again, "Congratulations on your new Ninja Z-3100. You are about to enjoy a whole new experience in maneuverability and sheer acceleration." All she could do was close her eyes and wish that this day could be started over again.
