Having Dinner

Mission: S2E1 - Secrets
Location: Ship's Lounge
Timeline: MD 102 1900

Ahira finished drying off and tossed his towel into a hamper. He slipped into a pair of underwear and combed his hair, before going over to his closet.

He opened the door and looked inside trying to decide what to put on. His first meeting with Finn had been an accident, literally. The second had been just two guys hanging out. But now they were having dinner. Was this now a date, or was it still two guys just hanging out and having fun.

He couldn't really say for sure, and he sure didn't want to assume so he didn't want to get too dressed up. He found a pair of charcoal gray chinos, a white tee shirt and a black and charcoal hooded flannel, which he left unzipped.

He fed his fish and left his cabin, taking the turbolift down to the lounge.

Finn, being his usual prompt self, was already sitting in the lounge, enjoying the ambiance. Sitting with a cocktail, he was sitting staring out a window. It was nice to get out, start to get to know more people. So, with that, he decided to keep things casual, dark wash jeans, charcoal boots, and a polo shirt to match. His hair, as always, was immaculate.

"Hey," you're looking good," Ahira said, as he sat down beside the Engineer, "what are you drinking?"

"Thanks," Finn replied, "You too." He looked at his drink, "Oh this? It is called a Magical Star. Tropical flavours and when using real alcohol provides a bit of a kick." He took another sip of the tan and sky-blue coloured drink.

"That sounds very tasty, I think I'll have one myself,"Ahira said, before signaling for a waiter. After ordering a duplicate of Finn's drink he said, "So, you like spicy, have you ever had Bajoran food?"

"Once," Finn smiled and laughed a little, "although it was a little too spicy. Didn't feel right after it, felt like I was melting."

"I don't think I would have liked to have been there to see that. I actually don't mind it myself, but you're having a corrupting influence on me. I'm now in the mood for some nice tacos. I don't mind eating replicated ones, but I could cook some too. Up to you."

"We are here now, might as well enjoy it," Finn said as he sipped his drink," And the last time I was called a corrupting influence was when I did bar work. It is easy to get people to get drinks you are making when you work in a skimpy uniform at a dance club."

Ahira's eyes grew a little larger and his smile slowly morphed into a smirk. "I bet you'd look really good in a skimpy uniform. even better without one."

"Oh. Thanks," Finn blushed, "I can't say I always enjoyed it," he tried to change the subject, "You got a lot of the wrong attention. It was also when I was at the Academy. A few of us just did it for fun; we enjoyed it. Although, when you get into class the at the start of a new year, and your instructor tried to grab your butt the night before, it can get awkward."

"Yeah, I guess it can," the Intel officer agreed."How long did you do it for?"

"Pretty much as often as I could while I was at the Academy. I would usually say I need things to occupy me to keep me out of trouble back then, but I think it just caused a lot more," Finn blushed again, thinking of some particularly incident-filled nights.

"Do you ever wish you could go back and do it again?"

"Sometimes," Finn thought, "not make some mistakes, make other choices. Not that I regret anything I have done. Just get some things to work out differently. What about you?" he went to change the subject, "It has been all me so far. Any Academy stories yourself?"

"Most of my stories come from before the Academy, I think I told you, I didn't exactly have a typical childhood. I had to grow up fast. I can tell you though I can totally relate to what you dealt with as a dancer. I...I dealt with something similar, but I was younger and it wasn't exactly voluntary."

"But, do have a couple of stories, it took me a while to learn to follow the rules. The son of the Dean of Students and I got into a spot of trouble at this London pub once."

"Oh?" Finn enquired, hoping Ahira would continue on.

"Well, we had dinner there because the owner and Alex's uncle were partners, er, business partners, and so he talked him into letting us use the kitchen after they'd closed.

I was making him dessert, and, uh, well things got a little heated, and I'm not talking about the oven. We didn't realize that there were security cameras there. Things got recorded that shouldn't have been recorded."

"Oh we all have stories like that," Finn smiled, "whether we want to admit them or not is another thing."

"Anymore you'd care to share?" Ahira asked with a smirk.

Finn laughed, "I would be the one who falls into the category of not wanting to admit them. At least not yet."

Ahira cocked his head to one side as he studied the engineer. "Okay, I'll bite. How long before you tell me more of your secrets?"

He smiled, "When I have gotten to know someone more," Finn then raised an eyebrow, "and when I know, it can't or won't be used against me. Need to be careful and all doesn't end up on some permanent record."

"I'd like to get to know you better too,"Ahira replied, "we could do dinner again. This time at my place. Maybe Saturday? How does that sound?"

"Sounds like a plan to me," Finn replied, still smiling inanely.

"So, just one more question, "is this the end of our time together tonight, or do you want to come back to my place?"

"Erm," Finn flustered, quite visibly, "I, I would say end things here tonight. Here. I'm not in that kind of head space to go back with anyone." He took a breath, he hated having this conversation, "That isn't the kind of thing I'm looking for just now if I am reading the situation right." Finn was blushing, "I just want to enjoy my time with people, get to know them."

"I'm sorry," Ahira said, "I really don't want that either. Trust me. But, I just didn't want to be alone tonight."

"Sorry, it is just not my thing," Finn replied, feeling suddenly uneasy. His face certainly was betraying his emotions.

"It's okay, don't worry about it. I shouldn't have brought the subject up. That was way too pushy. Why don't we just start by trying to be friends and leave it at that for now."

"Yeah, that would be best I think," Finn managed to force out a small grin, "I don't really know many people yet. Friendship is better first." He was feeling very awkward, it had been a while since someone had been quite so open with their intentions. It caught him off guard and made him release just how not ready he was for that kind of potential physical interaction again.

"Good then, I'll send you a message to your PAaD."

"Yeah, that would be good," Finn smiled as he went to excuse himself.

Ahira watched him depart then finished his food.
