Confrontation

Posted on Fri Oct 6th, 2017 @ 10:34pm by Captain Claudia Ainscow & Master Warrant Officer Lucinda Ingham & Mystery Man

Mission: S2E2 - Vindeux
Location: Starbase Unity
Timeline: Mission Day 116; 21:00

The time had come. Claudia and Lucinda had agreed to confront their father about his agenda and desire to keep the fact Claudia was his daughter such a big secret. They left the Vindex and proceeded through the featureless and unwelcoming corridors of the Veayron-class former mining facility. Claudia hated this place and she hadn't heard many positive comments about it from those aboard the Vindex.

They knew Stephen was there. He was due to transfer back to the Alpha Quadrant for reassignment to a starbase in orbit of Andoria - but Claudia and Lucinda weren't going to let him go without finding out the truth. After that they never wanted to see the man again.

"Are you sure this is the right way?" Lucinda asked.

Claudia nodded. "Positive. This place looks pretty much the same wherever you go - I know for a fact he's staying down here because I asked a friend who has his sources. We just take a left down here and then it's somewhere on the left"

"Somewhere on the left?" Lucinda responded.

Claudia nodded again. "I know the number. Don't worry"

Arriving outside Stephen's door Claudia pressed the chime and then stepped to one side so she wouldn't be visible when Stephen opened the door. He wouldn't be expecting her and would easily suspect something was wrong if Claudia was there.

Stephen was reading. He placed his book down and called for whoever his guest was to enter. He wasn't expecting a guest but whoever it was obviously had a reason for calling in person.

"Enter" Stephen called.

Lucinda opened the door and walked inside.

"Lucinda...a pleasant surprise. Please take a seat - can I get you anything?" Stephen asked.

Lucinda distracted Stephen by asking for a cup of tea - giving Claudia time to enter without being seen. Claudia slipped through the gap in the door just as it closed and stood in front of it to block Stephen's potential escape.

"What brings you here?" Stephen asked.

Lucinda shrugged. "Do I need a reason to visit my father? It's not like I've seen you since you sent me to the Vindex. I guessed it was time for a catch up before you disappear off to Andoria"

"Well...it's a good ship. I thought you might like to advance your career there" Stephen responded.

Stephen hit the replicator with his hand as it wasn't working properly.

"Two cups of tea...warm" Stephen ordered.

"You sent me to watch Claudia for you. It was nothing to do with advancing my career - which incidentally is going well thank you" Lucinda responded.

The drinks replicated and Stephen carried them over - however he almost dropped them when he saw who was stood over by his doorway. Lucinda didn't tell her did she? She can't have. She promised to keep it a secret.

"Claudia..." Stephen said.

Claudia nodded. "Father"

"You said you wouldn't tell her!" Stephen exclaimed.

Claudia walked over to Stephen and drew herself up to full height. She then walked right up to him and helped herself to one of the cups of tea.

"I'll take that thank you. You can do some explaining about all of this bullshit you're so determined to protect - and why you've put my ship and its crew through so much shit to serve nothing but your own agenda" Claudia said.

Stephen did his best to control his anger as he sat back down and placed the other cup of tea on the table - pushing it towards Lucinda. He watched as Claudia sat down in the same seat and looked at him with the evilest of stares. Stephen's plans for a quick and quiet getaway were certainly off the table now.

"I'm not proud of what happened with Elisabeth and I. I was married and I didn't want to lose my wife. I told Elisabeth that I could have nothing to do with you...and that's the way I wanted it to stay. Clearly Lucinda here couldn't keep her mouth shut" Stephen said.

Claudia responded. "If you were so keen to protect your secret you'd have kept your mouth shut instead of telling her and stayed far away from my ship. Gary and Paul are also aware so I'd imagine it's only a matter of time before your wife finds out too. Nevertheless I'd have found out anyway because for the record Lucinda didn't tell me - she helped me run a DNA check in the Starfleet Medical database. This comes after my mother told me Richard Ainscow wasn't my father and that gave me doubts - don't you dare blame Lucinda because she didn't say a word until after she gave me the test results"

That wasn't what he wanted to know. All three of Gary, Paul and Lucinda knew about Claudia and it was without doubt that his wife Abigail was going to find out. Stephen loved his wife and his family but it was beginning to feel like everything was slipping away. He just hoped they didn't know about his links to Section 31.

"Perhaps I shouldn't have - but as you've said - you and your curiosity would have have found out anyway..." Stephen replied.

Claudia nodded. "I would have. Your records are in the Starfleet database and if you want to blame anyone...blame my mother. She was the one who told me Richard Ainscow wasn't my real father - after that it was just a case of accessing the Medical Database and finding out from there. It was easy really"

"I've heard enough. I want both of you out of my quarters...now...or I will call Security" Stephen snarled.

Claudia gestured for Lucinda to leave the room - which she did.

"I'm not quite done with you yet. I want to know why you sent my ship to collect that shuttle which had passengers who weren't dead. They woke up and injured members of my crew...you're damned lucky nobody was killed" Claudia said.

Stephen shrugged. "Like we said in the briefing. The Vindex was there and available...and it was capable of defending itself if the aliens came looking for the shuttle. Nevertheless you failed to deliver it anyway because it was destroyed"

"Don't you dare turn the tables on me. I know exactly what you are up to" Claudia responded.

Before Stephen could respond Claudia stood up and left the room.
