Operations Meeting

Posted on Wed Aug 3rd, 2016 @ 5:15pm by Commander Akiva ben-Avram & Lieutenant JG Kevin Pittman & Ensign Jessie Hall

Mission: S1E1 - Booby Trap
Location: USS Vindex > Bridge > Observation Lounge
Timeline: Current

Due to some untimely scheduling, the meeting location for the ops department leadership team was changed to the Observation lounge. Involving mostly the junior officers and junior enlisted, everyone figured this would be the time the Chief would outline projects, assignments and duty leaders for the upcoming work week.

The shifts themselves are usually managed by the section leaders as to keep the Chief from being overwhelmed and bogged down with the minute details.

Entering the deck, Kevin nodded at the officers working bridge duty as several enlisted and junior officers were walking behind him. Walking a few people behind him was Ensign Hall with a PADD of information she was glancing at.

As everyone entered, the officers took to the table and the others took to standing around the wall and windows. Quiet murmuring followed as everyone waited for the Chief to arrive.

Akiva walked into the lounge, not quite fashionably late as per usual. He took a look around at his small group of junior officers, blinking excessively, and shifted his weight to lean on the nearest table. "I'm not much for meetings, so let's make this quick," he said. "We already have a long list of daily preventative maintenance tasks on top of our special projects and mission goals, so I don't want to anyone to feel micromanaged. I do wish to commend Ensigns Hall and Pittman, though, for their exemplary record keeping during their recent shifts, and I would like to see more of the same." He folded his hands behind his back and raised his chin.

"To that end, I am instituting required daily checklists for all ops personnel, which is in addition to the shift reports submitted by all officers. These will be updated biweekly. Rather than submit them to your immediate superior, you will instead simply log your completed daily checklists directly with the ship computer as you complete them. No further information or record will be required, as any and all extenuating circumstances will be notated by myself or my proxy in the shift report."

Akiva indicated his junior officers with a nod. "Any incomplete logs will be immediately flagged for review by the commanding operations officer on duty and ultimately myself." He paused for effect. "Let me be clear: you do not want to be the one who leaves their checklist incomplete."

After meeting the eye of everybody present, Akiva released a sigh and scratched his neck. "All right, then. Any questions?"

Hall was looking over her information making sure she wasn't missing anything while also responding. "Not at this time sir." Pittman however inquired. "Sir, the sovereign-class installation of secondary operations modules or "mini-operations stations" had started onboard the Starbase I just came from and from all the research I've looked over, they are slowly being implemented into other sovereign-class ships. Is that something we can expect to happen onboard the Vindex?"

Akiva gave Kevin a curious look. "Not at this time," he said at length. "At least, not until some other priority issues are resolved." Looking around at the rest of the group, Akiva repeated his question. "Any other questions?"

The room was silent as everyone had their marching orders and were ready to go to work.

"That's what I like to hear. Let's get to work everyone." He nodded and then left the group to their socializing.
